The Impressionist Movement approximately started in Paris during the 1860’s and then gradually spread over Europe and the United States. The basis of any revolution is the rejection of the prevalent norms and rules. Impressionism too, started in rebellion to the existing governmental sanctions and rules imposed on the artistic methods. Thus they were also rejected by the leading academic artistic institutions. The movement pervaded all forms of the art such as paintings, music and literature. In the field of painting, the impressionists sought to capture the effect that “the objects made on the eye in a fleeting instant” ("Impressionism Movement, Artists and Major Works", n.d.).
